Job Purpose:
To participate in the operational management of a robust Middle Office function within the Wholesale Banking Division to provide a seamless Client origination and execution experience through the Coverage units (Corporate Banking and Financial Institutions) who develop, manage and own Client relationships.
The Wholesale Banking Middle Office (WBMO) is a first line of defense function which is envisaged to play the role of an enabler between the Front (Business), Middle (Credit, Legal etc.) and Back Offices (Operations, Finance) through which the bank’s entire lending portfolio will be managed and as such, it will be the reference point in interfaces between Client(s), Business Unit Management, the Credit Approving
Authority (LCC), Credit and Risk Management, Legal, Audit, Compliance, and Operations management.
The job holder would be responsible for introducing new disciplines and effectively set standards so as to ensure a high level client experience as well as provide strong partnership to the front line to maximize time towards origination.
Role Dimensions:
The job holder belongs to the first line of defense and may have P&L responsibility albeit is responsible for:
– jointly managing the credit workflow relating to the WB credit portfolio
– jointly managing the KYC AML workflow relating to the WB portfolio
– jointly managing the client on barding and account opening workflow
Staff: Middle Office Managers will report directly to the WB Middle Office Head.
Principal Responsibilities, Accountabilities and Deliverables of Role:
– Deliver a strong and efficient Wholesale Banking Middle Office discipline in the bank to cater to all its lending activities,
– Ensure an efficient and up-to-date risk-based approach for KYC AML certifications of WB relationships
– Enable a smooth and sound client on-barding and account opening process to the best relationship initiation experience
– Serve as a referral point to the front and back offices for arbitrating on issues/matters stemming from the bank’s lending activities.
– Introduce best practices and robust controls that increase both awareness and accountability within the coverage teams for managing risks in the department’s operations thus minimizing the impact/number of gaps identified in the business.
– Endeavor to identify opportunities to bring about efficiencies through automation of
tasks undertaken by the department and/or enhancements to the bank’s IT systems.
Education / Certifications
Diploma / Master’s degree from a reputable university OR alternatively, a minimum level of work experience as stated below.
Experience
At least 2 years of relevant work experience in a wholesale bank or a
consulting / audit firm or any related financial services institution.
