(Roles and Responsibilities)
The British Embassy in Tunis currently has a vacancy for an Estates Technical Supervisor grade A2 (L) to start as soon as possible.

Main Purpose of the Job:

As the Technical Supervisor, you will be responsible for technical oversight of all routine maintenance, repairs and minor works projects on British Embassy Estate in Tunis, comprising British Embassy Office, the official Residence of Her Majesty?s Ambassador to Tunisia, staff amenities and approximately 46 residential properties.

Managing a team of four contractors, you will ensure that all facilities are operated and maintained in accordance with relevant technical and health & safety standards. You will on occasions be required to take a hands-on approach, undertaking some aspects of maintenance works yourself (appropriate to your skill set), lead by example and be prepared to invest in the development of the contractor?s.

Main duties and responsibilities:

Under the direction of the Regional Technical Works Supervisor and Technical Works Officer you will be responsible for compiling and maintaining a comprehensive asset register for the estate;
Implementation of a documented preventative planned maintenance system for essential building services, plant and equipment, including;
LV electrical distribution and electrical installations;
Split air conditioning, package A/C units and AHU?s;
Standby generators;
Fire protection systems;
Water services;
Swimming pools and associated water treatment plant;
Security gates / vehicle barriers etc.;
External security lighting.
Supervise and direct an FM team of 4 contractors on a day-to-day basis ensuring that the maintenance programme is kept up to date and is well documented. Responsible for issuing monthly KPI reports and analyses and ensure quality control of FM team operations;
Manage the Property Compliance Assessment (PCA) process as set out by FCO guidance;
Implementation of UK inspections (gas, lift, fire, electricity);
Liaise with local contractors with respect to maintenance and building project works;
Prepare risk assessments and Health & Safety methods, for which training can be provided;
Implement environmental sustainability in estates operations;
Issue specifications for project works in consultation with the Estates Manager and the TWS.
Prepare floor plans and drawings.
The above list is not exhaustive and the jobholder will be required to be flexible and take on other adhoc tasks as required.

Essential qualifications, skills and experience
Excellent communication skills (both written and oral) in English, French, and Arabic. Ability to express ideas and messages clearly and concisely, both orally and in written communication.
Hold a recognised trade qualification ideally in electrical or mechanical plus a further qualification at diploma level in an engineering subject;
Previous work experience in an commercial or residential environment;
Good communication and people skills;
Experience of managing contractors in a collaborative style.
IT literate and able to use the Microsoft Office Suite of Software (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access);
A positive ?can do? approach to work and the ability to work as part of a team;
Experience in the supervision and management of people employed on maintenance activities;
Experience with Health & Safety systems;
Experience in drafting technical specifications;
Hold a clean driving licence.

Working hours and remuneration:

The British Embassy in Tunisia offers an attractive working environment and remuneration package for this role. Initial salary will be TND 2,387 per month while on probation. Salary after probation is TND 2,954. This position is for a full-time employment, on a fixed-term contract for 1 year with possibility of renewal.

Conditioned working hours are 40 hours gross per week. Standard working hours are from 08:00-16:30 from Monday to Thursday and 08:00-13:00 on Fridays. A flexible working pattern may be possible by agreement with the line manager but it would be dependent on business requirements and in line with current terms and conditions of service.

The successful candidate will be subject to a 90-day probationary period. And the appointment will also be subject to satisfactory local and UK security clearances.
